Haywards Heath Golf Club
It was great to see a fantastic turnout for this year's Centenary Drive In. It was held in its traditional form for the first time in a few years and it felt that life at the club was finally almost completely back to normal. Being our Centenary year, Martin Jones (Club Captain), Lorna Tuttle (Ladies Captain), Andrew Lodge (Seniors Captain) and Max Tyler (Junior Captain) arrived wearing the sort of gear one would have seen when the club first opened 100 years ago... before even Nike existed! If you can't imagine that, check out that the photos below.
3 out of the 4 drives hit the fairway... with Club Captain Martin going for power over accuracy and rolling in to the left rough with a drive bang on 200 yards.
Lady Captain Lorna's drive of 170 yards just pipped Senior's Captain Andrew Lodge, who managed 168 yards off the tee in a a very fetching beard he could only dream of growing himself.
Junior Captain Max Tyler wowed the crowds though with a terrific drive measuring 248 yards, showing that age sometimes does trump experience.
We are very pleased to announce that our chosen charity for 2022 will be Dementia UK.
Dementia UK provides specialist demnetia support for families through their Admiral Nurse service. When things get difficult or challenging for people with dementia and their families. Admiral nurses work alongside them, giving them the compassionate one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions that can be difficult to find anywhere else. They are a lifeline - helping families to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow ith more confidence and less fear.
Please give your support this year to this incredibly worthy cause.
One of the highlights of the drive-in was the handing over of the cheque to Woodlands Meed, the charity the club supported in 2021. It was an incredible fundraising achievement and the 2021 Club Captain, Niall Addison, was able to present a cheque for £35,531 to Marion Wilcock, the Chair of Governors for Woodlands Meed, where it will go towards fundraising a serious outdoor space complete with specialised trampoline.
