Haywards Heath Golf Club
Headway the Captain’s Charity 2017
[Headway East Sussex] Reg Charity 1084715
We are delighted that our cause has been adopted by Hayward’s Heath Golf Club to further raise awareness about the impact of brain injury and the need for our services throughout the local community, and to encourage people to think of us when holding events or volunteering.
Our local charity helps hundreds of individuals and families whose lives have been devastated by brain injury and who need rehabilitation and help regaining mobility and returning to their independent lives and work. At a recent event launching the charity’s new brand image and title, Chief Executive Michele Fleming said: “ We have grown substantially since our start as an evening Support Group for carers at The Hurstwood Park Hospital in 1988. Today more than ever it is important to define our independent charity as helping all those in East Sussex, and the West Sussex borders, while not funded by the NHS but totally reliant on our community volunteers and supporters to maintain services.”
The need is great with 4,000 new admissions to hospital for brain injury each year in the region. Specialist support is needed for the complex challenge facing survivors and to relieve
the 24-hour burden of caring for a loved one with complex needs, behavioural problems and memory loss.
Last year we received 150 new referrals
Provided 811 counselling sessions and held 36 evening Support Groups
Delivered 9,472 hours of Outreach services helping those at home
Provided 4,366 Repite & Reablement Days
Offered help to over 400 professionals and families with our free advice line
