We had an event planned for 5-7pm on 9 June. However it was cancelled a week before the proposed event as we didn't have sufficient names on the sign up board. We didn't want to close the course to all members on the 9th if there was no certainty the competition would go ahead. So a general point for all: if you fancy an event then book early.
Quiz Night Friday 31st March
Bill & Jenny Steele hosted our latest quiz night. Bill started with four rounds before supper including a couple of quickfire rounds. Seventeen teams of six contested the event & it was won on a tie break by 'The Bread Rolls ' who were captained by our Lady Captain Marian. Each team member won a £ 15 voucher to be spent on food & drink in the Club. Our next quiz night is to be held on Friday October 6th.
Sixty members enjoyed a night out on the “Bluebell Railway”, as it wended its way from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead. The dining room was laid out to resemble a railway carriage a with pleasant train journey replayed over a video link on the TV. This all set the atmosphere for the murder mystery which unfolded throughout the evening.
There was the husband who forgot his anniversary and had booked an away golf break with his mates on the same day. The man who thought his divorce lawyer wife might be able to help the couple out!
A gambling addiction led to two couples being evicted from the train for only having second class tickets in the first-class carriage. The forgetful Ticket Inspector and his long-suffering wife who had to remind him that he had retired from the railway and smooth things over.
A wife who discovered her husband’s affair with his physiotherapist by intercepting his emails. A tangled web indeed.
There were five alternative answers to who was murdered, how they were killed and who committed the crime. The two eventual winners of the evening, Liz Barrett and Janet Treharne, won a bottle of champagne each.
